General Update

Wow, I've been lax lately. I think it's been two weeks since I posted anything. Sorry 'bout that.

Well, over the course of the last two weeks, not a whole lot has happened. Two weekends ago I went to Nashville Super Speedway and hung out with some friends doing a track day. It was a nice day, and I got some decent pictures (highlights posted below).

Last weekend I hung out at the house and got some long-needed chores done. You know, the kind you put off 'cuz you just really don't want to mess with them. I even learned to sweat copper piping! Not that it was in any way hard, it's just nice to know I figured it out and can do it now.

Anywho, I'm having surgery tomorrow. I'm having a Septoplasty. Apparently that's where they cut out the section of your septum (the cartiledge at the end of your nose) that's croooked as hell and blocking your nasal passages. It seems as though the septum can become crooked as hell and block your nasal passages if you break your nose playing backyard football in high school. Who knew? But be sure to pray for Christal. She has to put up with me after surgery tomorrow.

Now, on to the pictures! I'm not going to include captions, other than to tell you that I was only shooting friends of mine.

Ok, I am going to caption this one. I was particularly proud of it, as I was trying to purposely shoot these two bikes together. This is a 50+ year old married couple. enjoying what I consider the PERFECT husband/wife outing.

Correcton to a Previous Post

I'm a terrible pet owner. After reading my post from 2 weeks ago, Christal reminded me that we lost Orangejello and Darryl a couple of winters ago. I had completely forgotten about that. We took two of the fish from her dad's old pond, but one didn't survive the move. I bought the other to keep him/her company. These two are Bert and Ernie.
In my defense, fish aren't terribly personable.

Why I'm Scheduled for Drug Testing

Last weekend was the annual EastTNRiders.com Begining of the Season Bash (BOSB). In case you haven't noticed, this is absolutely one of the highlights of my year. Basically, the BOSB is a party that ETR throws to get everyone together and kick off the riding season for the year. We hang out all day at Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort, ride the fiddies, have dinner, race the fiddies, have a door prize raffle, and race big wheels (yes, the little kid's toys) down the side of the mountain. By this time there's a huge bonfire going 'til well into the morning.

I rarely take any pictures during the BOSB. As is my nature, I'm usually right in the middle of whatever's entertaining everyone else, so I'm normally having my picture taken. Normally I hate having my picture taken, but this is so much fun that I just don't care.

All of the following pictures were taken by Myk and Julie, except for the last one which was taken by Spencer.

Here is a shot of the outside of our motel room. From left to right, my big wheel, Mike's big wheel, Mike's fiddy, Chuck's fiddy, and the basket on the front of my fiddy.

This is my good friend Chuck on his new-to-him fiddy.

This is Darryl Cannon, aka Killboy from http://www.killboy.com/. He's running his unlimited class big wheel (yes, we have enough competitors to break us up into stock and unlimited classes!). This contraption actually started out life as a Green Machine. The lights on it are Hella off-roading lights.

If you've ever wondered how a fat ass like me gets on a big wheel, it looks a lot like this:

And last but certainly not least, here's Spencer's picture of me during the fiddy race.

If you've ever wondered what it's like to climb on a kid's toy and race three-quarters of a mile down a mountain road at 11:00 pm, well you're out of luck. The only way to understand is to do it. However, this video will attempt to show you what it's like. After watching it, my boss told me that I was next on the drug-testing list. The video was shot by Nick, who was the winner of the stock class. It covers both heats.

Flowers, Fish, Bees, and a Big Wheel

With nothing better to write about this week, I decided to post a few random pictures. Hope you enjoy. Remember, you can always click on the picture to see it larger.

Two weekends ago we had Gracie's birthday party (my niece). We got her some clothes and a big wheel. She's taking after her Uncle Kelly already. Check out the windblown hair!

Last Sunday I got the camera out to play in the yard. It was the first time in a while, and it was fun. Here is a shot of our fish, which have grown substantially. They're probably 8" long now. Darryl is the all orange one, and Orangejello is the the one with the white fins and tail. We have a baby fish that showed up this spring (apparently either Darryl or Orangejello is a girl), but he's still too small and zoomy to get a shot of.

I put on the close-up lens and took this picture. It looks like big flowers, but it's really just phlox.

I put on the fixed 50mm lens and dialed the aperture all the way down to f1.8 to get this shot of Christal's tulips. I thought it looked soft enough to be a painting. (No photo editing was done to this picture.)

There was a bee flying around, and I thought it would be cool to get a picture of it. It turns out that taking pictures of a bee is pretty damn hard! They don't tend to stay put very long. I thought I had him nailed with this picture, but the little bugger moved on me!

I did finally get a good one, though I do have to admit that I cropped it to get him centered.

Who knew that bees were so furry?
